Independent Living Program

Goal: To train individuals in independent living skills so that they may maximize their potential to live in the least restrictive setting within the community of their choice.

 

Services

• Evaluation to determine specific areas of training need
• Prescribed training in areas of:
     - Meal Preparation / Nutrition
     - Shopping
     - Appliances: Use and Safety
     - Safety and Emergency Procedures
     - Transportation / Mobility
     - Driver’s Education, for drivers permit
     - Social Awareness / Communication
     - Money Management
     - Housekeeping
     - Hygiene / Grooming
     - Accessing community resources: Social Security, Housing Authority,
       AFDC, Medi-Cal, Child Protective Services, Court issues,
       and Medical Follow-Up
     - Parenting Skills Training
     - Self Advocacy
     - Other areas of identified need

• Developmentally Disabled

 

Admission Criteria

• Motivation and willingness to participate
• Documentation of disability and statement of goals by referring agency
• Impairment or conduct not dangerous to self or others
• Third party sponsor
